Shaz Kahng is a proven business leader, innovator, and marketing expert. She is a board director and CMO for OMsignal, the world’s leading smart apparel company. Shaz also advises PE, VC, and hedge funds on retail, footwear, apparel, and activewear companies and serves as an advisor to retail/apparel startups.
Background: After graduating from Cornell with a B.S. in Food Science/Chemistry, Shaz began her career as a Research Scientist for Kraft General Foods focusing on leading edge technologies. She then went on to earn her MBA in Marketing & Finance on full scholarship at The Wharton School.

Upon earning her MBA, Shaz transitioned into strategy and operations consulting, implementating innovative ideas for retail and consumer goods clients. At Kurt Salmon Associates, a global consulting firm advising the world’s leading retail and consumer goods brands, Shaz became one of the youngest and the first female, non-Caucasian Partner in the firm’s 70-year history. She achieved record sales and earned multiple client awards for outstanding quality of work for a client roster including: Proctor & Gamble, Tiffany & Co., Federated, The Limited, Levi Strauss, Quaker Oats, Liz Claiborne, and Calvin Klein.

In 1999 Shaz joined Scient, an Internet business builder and innovator. As a Managing Director she invented, built, and marketed retail and consumer businesses such as MVP.com, eluxury, and Sephora.com. She also worked with buy.com, Colgate-Palmolive, and Johnson & Johnson.

Her next move was to indulge her passion for branding by becoming Head of Brand Strategy for Wolff Olins, a brand strategy and innovation firm where she crafted novel marketing approaches by identifying the unique drivers of a compelling consumer experience. Her work revitalized brands such as GE, Staples, Carters, Fila, New York City, Pfizer, and Sephora.

Shaz was then recruited to Nike to build their global retail strategy and launch novel retail concepts. She later became the Global General Manager for the Nike Cycling business growing it 300% and making it profitable for the first time since the inception of the business. In that effort she led a global team, held full P&L responsibility, and turned around the brand. She was promoted to a Global Director role as the #2 person over the $1B Global Women’s Training business including footwear, apparel, and equipment.

Her next move to was take on the turnaround of lucy Activewear and set a strong foundation for growth. As President of lucy Activewear, a retailer and etailer with 65 stores and over 800 employees, Kahng turned around the business in record time, making it profitable for the first time in history. She and her team delivered these results in one-third of the time expected by VF Corporation. Prior to leaving lucy, Shaz turned in the first full fiscal year of profitability in the company’s twelve year history.

She is a published business author, most recently for an article she wrote for Women’s Wear Daily in December 2015. She’s a frequent industry speaker, has appeared on CNN and USA Today, and has been quoted in Bloomberg, The NY Times, The Wall Street Journal, The International Herald Tribune, and Brandweek.

Shaz lives in San Francisco with her husband and their five year old twin girls.
